Lieutenant Farquharson VC

The French artist Louis Desanges painted around 50 scenes of British soldiers winning the VC, during the Indian Mutiny and Crimean War. This painting is of the young Lieutenant Farquharson storming the bastion to spike the guns at Lucknow on 9 Mar 1858. He is wearing the dress uniform of the 42nd Highlanders although this was highly unlikely. The feather bonnet would have been replaced by a more practical forage cap with a white cover, and other concessions to the climate would have been adopted.
