Hamilton Smith's print of grenadiers of the 42nd and 92nd Highlanders has this figure in the background. The bagpipes are sketchily drawn, played on the left shoulder. The piper wears a red jacket with blue facings like the rest of the regiment, not reverse colours like the drummers. He has a red hackle on his feather bonnet, and a white belt for a sword, although at this time the other ranks of the 42nd no longer carried swords. |
