Piper 1812

Hamilton Smith's print of grenadiers of the 42nd and 92nd Highlanders has this figure in the background. The bagpipes are sketchily drawn, played on the left shoulder. The piper wears a red jacket with blue facings like the rest of the regiment, not reverse colours like the drummers. He has a red hackle on his feather bonnet, and a white belt for a sword, although at this time the other ranks of the 42nd no longer carried swords.
