Lieutenant-Colonel William Middleton


Middleton joined the 42nd as Ensign in 1803. He was wounded at the Battle of Corunna on 16 January 1809. He served in the Peninsula War and was promoted to captain in 1812. By 1835 he was promoted Lieutenant Colonel and on 23 Oct succeeded to the post of CO of the 42nd Regiment upon the death of Sir Charles Gordon. He retired in 1839 and died in 1843 at Woolwich where he was Barrack Master.
