Glengarry Badge, Other Ranks 1874

The lion and crown device, known as the Royal Crest dates back to medieval times. It would be logical to assume that the regiment adopted this badge when it became a 'Royal' regiment in 1831 but in fact the officers of the 50th wore the Royal crest on their belt-plates from around 1809.
