Belt Plate, Officers 1843

For their services in China in 1841 the 55th were awarded the honour of displaying a Chinese Dragon on their badges and Colours. This was granted on 12th January 1843, thus giving them plenty of time to design and produce a new belt plate within the year, to replace the previous plain badge. The plate has a matt finish with burnished edge. The whole design is gilt. The picture was taken from Major Parkyn's book on belt plates and buttons.
