General Sir William Henry Clinton GCB


Sir William was the son of the better known Sir Henry Clinton who commanded the British forces in North America. He lived from 1769 to 1846 and started his military career in the 7th Light Dragoons. He was a Tory politician as well as a soldier. He served as ADC and military secretary to the Duke of York.

1806 - 18 MP for Boroughbridge
1818 - 29 MP for Newark
1814 25th April Colonel of 55th Foot until his death.
1846 22nd Feb. Died
