Silver Centrepiece

This silver statuette is one of the most important pieces in the regimental silverware which is placed on the officers' mess table on special occasions. It depicts a mounted officer of the French Imperial Guard Lancers hacking at Lieutenant Latham who bravely clings onto the Kings Colour with his one good arm after the other was cut off. The photo of Lieutenant Matthew Latham taken in 1870 tells us that it was his right arm that was severed, not his left.
