The Appenines 1944


The 5th Buffs were brought back from Egypt with the 78th Division to rescue the offensive from stagnation in the Appenines. They shivered and slithered on mud-caked mountainsides from mid-October to Christmas and had little success in some forlorn attacks. This was the one time when morale showed serious signs of decline,
