Other Ranks Shako Plate 1855-1861

The shako introduced in 1855 had a new star badge for other ranks, to replace the previous round shape. It has the number 3 in the middle with the garter inscribed HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE. I do not know if the officers' badge was much different but for other regiments the design was similar for all ranks, varying only in quality. The Buffs wore this badge on their new shakos when they went to the Crimea in May 1855 so were one of the few regiments to have it in that campaign.
