Buttons

The earliest numbered pewter buttons for other ranks had a plain 3 within circular patterns as in the left hand example. Officers wore gilt buttons from some time in the 1820s. The button second from the left was worn in 1829 and the next button can be found on officers' uniforms dated around 1850. The right hand button was worn by officers after 1881.
