Officers in Aden 1958

These officers of the Buffs were photographed, probably at Fort Tumier, during a halt on the three day journey from Aden to Dhala in 1958. The Officer on the left with his face shaded by a floppy hat is 2nd-in-command, Major Richard Dendy who was promoted to lieutenant-colonel in 1959 to become the last commanding officer of the East Kent Regiment, and the first CO of the amalgamated Buffs and West Kents. Behind Major Dendy is an officer in a peaked cap, of the 13th/18th Hussars, then Lt John Davison (Intelligence Officer), Capt F E 'Rusty' Thorneycroft, in command of B Coy, and Major Graham Semmence, in command of C Coy. The box shaped vehicle was the signal truck which often had to be dug out of the sand.
