Major-General Richard Blunt


Richard Blunt commanded the regiment while they were serving in the West Indies from 1795 to 1802. He led a raid on the Dutch islands of Saba and St Eustatia in April 1801 and became governor after they were captured and occupied by the Buffs. He took the regiment to the Peninsula in 1808 and avoided losing 9 companies in the retreat to Corunna. He reached the rank of Major-General and was appointed Knight Commander of the Tower and Sword of Portugal.
