The Royal Irish Regiment

Lance-Corporal, India c1899

The NCO wears the hot climate frock which is scarlet with a blue collar. The cuffs are the same colour as the tunic and decorated with a white braid trefoil. There is also white braid around the bottom of the collar and around the sides of the shoulder strap. The letters RI are sewn into the scarlet shoulder straps. He has brass regimental badges on his collar. The brass buttons were universal in design, having the Royal Arms as their device. The single rank stripe is of white worsted material as are the two good-conduct stripes on his left fore-arm. When a man reached the rank of sergeant these stripes were no longer worn.
