The Royal Irish Regiment

Officer's Belt Plate c1800

This officer's shoulder-belt plate was worn during the Napoleonic Wars. It is all gilt except for the blue enamel centre. The Maid of Erin Irish harp rests on a shamrock leaf, within a garter inscribed VIRTUTIS NAMURCENSIS PRAEMIUM. The Georgian crown surmounts the garter.
