HRH Prince Albert

Albert, the Prince Consort, was given the rank of Field-Marshal in February 1840, the same month that he married Queen Victoria. He had five Colonelcies:

30th April 1840 - 24th April 1842 11th Hussars
25th April 1842 - 22nd Sept 1852 Scots Guards
15th Aug 1850 - 22nd Sept 1852 60th Rifles
23rd Sept 1852 - 14th Dec 1861 Grenadier Guards
23rd Sept 1852 - 14th Dec 1861 The Rifle Brigade

Prince Albert died at Windsor on 14th December 1861 of typhoid fever. He was 42.

This print by Daubrawa was published in 1850 and shows Albert in the uniform of the Scots Guards. He has a blue sash as a Knight of the Garter and rides on a horse adorned with very ornate horse furniture. The officer behind is probably the Commanding officer of the Scots Guards but has a plainer bridle and shabraque. Albert has a gold stripe down his trousers whereas the CO, and everyone else, has a red stripe. The band and drum-major can be seen on the right.
