The Helder

The Helder lies at the tip of the Peninsula of North Holland. The channel between it and the Island of Texel to the north forms the southern entrance to the Wadden Zee. This watercolour is by Dirk Langendyk who probably witnessed the landing. The marching troops in the left foreground are Russian grenadiers and the soldiers near the building are British. The Russians did not arrive until 12th September, more than two weeks after the British landing.
