Private William Reynolds VC


Reynolds was born in Edinburgh in 1827. He won his Victoria Cross at the battle of the Alma on 20th Sept 1854 along with three other members of the Scots Fusilier Guards. He managed to rally the men round the Colours when the Colour party was under serious threat from the enemy. The other two medals he wears are the Crimea Medal and the Legion d'Honneur. This photo was taken in 1862. He was later promoted to corporal. He died, aged 42, in London on 20th October 1869.
