Surrender of Breda 1625

The famous painting of the surrender of the city of Breda by Diego Valasquez depicts the moment when the governor of the city handed the key to Ambrogio Spinola. Directly behind the principal figures the troops from the garrison can be seen marching out with Colours and arms. The smoking city is in the background. It all looks very civilised with Spinola placing a friendly hand on the governor's shoulder.
