| Warrant Officer Henry John Vatcher, after war service in South Africa with the 1st Royal Dragoons, joined the Newport Borough Police. At the outbreak of World War 1 he volunteered and was appointed RSM of the 12th Bantam Battalion of the South Wales Borderers raised at Newport in March 1915. They landed in France in June 1916. He served until the end of the war and then re-entered the Police Force where he was made an Inspector. He died in Nov 1943. This photo was taken in 1935. |
