Lieutenant-Colonel James Fitzgerald


James Fitzgerald was promoted to Lieut-Col in 1886 and was second in command of the 1st Battalion under Lieut-Col Cockburn. He became Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion in April 1889 and retired with the rank of Colonel in Feb 1892. His tunic is the pre 1902 type with two rows of gold lace on his cuff and Russia braid formed in circlets. The collar also has the braid in circlets, and the collar badge is a silver bear and ragged staff. This badge was replaced c1900 with the antelope badge. His medal is the Indian General Service medal from when the battalion was there in the 1870s. The helmet has the regimental badge with Queen's crown and antelope with raised front leg.
