Pouchbelt badge, Southern Shan States Battalion

The Southern Shan States Battalion lasted from 1904 to 1940. The founding date can be found on the central device of the badge, below the quoits, crossed kukris and Muslim crescent. A strength return of 1919 states that the unit had 848 Gurkhas. The number of Sikhs, Muslims and Burmese is not mentioned. The badge is the usual Rifles pattern, having a King's crown, laurel wreath and Order of the Bath star. It is 91 mm high by 71mm wide.
