Lt-Colonel Begbie, c1890

The uniform is dark green faced red with black braid. The details don't show up very well in this photo, but the braid is so elaborate on the collar and cuffs, showing his high rank, that the red is obscured. The most striking feature is the black leather pouchbelt and the bronze fittings. The chain is attached to a boss with a ram's head on it. This is a peculiarity of the 2nd Gurkhas that was adopted to commemorate the capture of Koonja Fort in 1824. The black or dark green helmet clearly shows the bronze spike, chain and badge.
