Ganesha Ram was a Jat. He served in Mesopotamia, and was awarded the Indian Distinguished Service Medal for bravery at Ctesiphon. In December 1915 the regiment were in front line trenches protected by barbed wire. The Turks managed to tie a rope to the wire and were pulling it away. Naik Ganesha Ram and Lance-Naik Bega Ram volunteered to crawl out and cut the rope which they did but were fired on, although they returned to their trench unscathed. For this he was awarded a clasp to his IDSM.
In 1937 Subadar Ganesha Ram, Bahadur, OBI, IDSM, one of the few remaining survivors of the siege of Kut, and captivity, was chosen to represent the Battalion at the Coronation of King George VI. He was presented with the Coronation Medal by the King. Ganesha Ram was appointed Subadar-Major on 1 Jan 1938.
