Rahimdad Khan was Subadar-Major from 1 Jan 1927 until 31 Dec 1933. He fought with the regiment in Mesopotamia and was one of the few survivors of the siege of Kut. He also served with the regiment in Waziristan in 1919 as a Subadar, and was commended for gallantry after an attack by Mahsuds on a piquet of C Company in June 1920. The piquet commander was killed and 7 men wounded. Rahimdad Khan helped to evacuate the casualties, with their weapons and accoutrements, under fire.
Another incident on 4 May 1921, at the narrow gorge of Hinnis Tangi, involved an enemy ambush on a convoy protected by Riflemen under the command of Subadar Rahimdad Khan. In this attack three men were killed and Rahimdad Khan and two others wounded. He already had the Indian Distinguished Service Medal, so for his service in the Waziristan campaign he was appointed MBE.
The 104th Wellesley’s Rifles became the 1st Battalion, 6th Rajputana Rifles in September 1921. Rahimdad Khan was appointed Subadar-Major in 1927 and titled Sardar Bahadur. In 1931 he was chosen to be one of the six Orderly Officers sent to London to attend King George V. Honorary Captain Rahimdad Khan OBI MVO MBE IDSM retired at the end of 1933.
