Lieutenant H B Rattray, 1897



The son of Thomas Rattray who raised the regiment in 1856 that later became the reknowned 45th Sikhs. He was a charismatic and popular leader. He was only 27 when he was put in charge of Chakdara Fort in the Malakand area in July 1897. He recieved the DSO for the heroic leadership he displayed throughout the week long battle.
