The sergeant has the blue tunic introduced in 1884-5. His pill-box forage cap has the distinction of a silver oak-leaf pattern lace cap-band instead of the other ranks’ white cloth band. It is not clear if the lace around his blue collar is silver or white. The silver lace rank stripes on his right arm have the silver rose arm badge above, which was worn by sergeants of the Hampshire Carabiniers from some date in the 1890s.
