The inscription on the brass oval garter was HAMPSHIRE YEOMANRY but some helmets have HAMPSHIRE CARABINIERS. There was also a variation of the rose in the centre which is brass here, but other specimens have a white metal rose. The Queen Victoria crown shows that this helmet was produced between 1884 and 1901 but may also have been worn in the early years of the 20th century. The badge is set on a white metal star, fixed on the front of helmets of other ranks. Officers had a gilt star.
