The Yeomanry

Trumpet-Major 1900

The trumpet-major of the Warwickshire Yeomanry wears the khaki service dress issued for the South African War of 1900-01. Although this photo was published in the Navy and Army Illustrated in July 1901 it was taken in 1900 just before the 5th Company, 2nd Battalion Imperial Yeomanry embarked to go to war. His rank is indicated by the four inverted chevrons on his right sleeve. He blows a long trumpet and has the shorter bugle hanging on a green cord behind his leg.
