The Yeomanry

Victorian Squadron Guidon

Guidons were carried by cavalry of dragoon status while cavalry regiments, descended from regiments of Horse, carried standards. Guidons are identified by their swallow-tail shape, and standards are rectangular. The Warwickshire Yeomanry carried a regimental guidon of crimson and two squadron guidons of the facing colour. This white damask regimental guidon has Queen Victoria's cypher in the middle on a red background with a union wreath around it. The Queen's crown is above and the title WARWICKSHIRE below. A castle device was chosen to occupy two corners as a representation of Warwick Castle. There are two figures blowing ram's horns on the outer turrets and sun, moon and star symbols. The other corners have WYC for WARWICKSHIRE YEOMANRY CAVALRY.
