The Yeomanry

Major R A Richardson

R A Richardson features in many photos of the Warwickshire Yeomanry from 1900 onwards. He commanded the Coronation Detachment in 1902 as a lieutenant, and appears in a line-up photo of himself with the RQMS and 5 corporals. Another photo of him, in khaki service dress, was taken in 1914 sitting next to the new commanding officer, Col Wight-Boycott. It seems that Richardson was not destined to be promoted to the command of the regiment. The photo seen here shows him as a major c1910 in full uniform which by that date was non-regulation because in 1902 the extra braid on collar and cuffs for senior officers was discontinued. The plume on his busby is also outdated because it is made up of egret feathers whereas this was changed to a taller plume made of cut ostrich feathers as described in the 1900 Dress Regulations.
