The Yeomanry

Gentleman of the Worcestershire Yeomanry

Richard Dighton made paintings of all the officers of the Worcestershire Yeomanry, at least one of which is in the Royal Collection. This painting of an officer in full dress c1834 follows the style of the others, being painted mounted and in profile, but differs in that the background is filled with landscape and sky. 'Dighton was a skilled artist as can be seen by the way he has painted the figure, but the landscape has probably been done by someone else. 'Like many of the Yeomanry regiments that were raised in 1794, the Worcestershire Yeomanry was disbanded in 1827 and then re-raised in 1831. 'They received the title Queen's Own in 1837.'
