The Yeomanry

Private on Vedette Duty c1840

Angelo Hayes painted this private keeping guard, wearing his sleeved cloak and holding a pistol. There are other paintings by Hayes of this period showing the regiment using pistols, but none with carbines. In 1875 they were issued with Wesley-Richards breech-loading carbines, although 2 years later there were only enough to arm half the regiment.
