The Yeomanry

Officer's Uniform c1895

The front of the blue uniform was covered with silver cord and the pelisse similarly. Down the front of the jacket (and the pelisse) were silver ball buttons that were decorative only, as the garment was fastened with hooks and eyes. The other rows of buttons were silver half balls. The black racoon fur busby has a plume of black egret feathers with a base of scarlet vulture feathers. The Yorkshire Hussars kept this type of plume while the regular hussars regiments changed to cut ostrich feathers at the end of the century. The red boss on the front has the embroidered Princess of Wales feathers, and the cords wound around the cap are gold cord cap-lines.
