The trumpeters and musicians were given pale blue shakos in 1840 while the rest of the regiment wore the new scarlet shakos. The top of the shako has a silver band of lace and now a drooping black plume instead of the upright type. The pelisse was pale blue with brown fur and remained so for many years. His horse has a blue shabraque with no embroidered rose. The sheepskin was white at this stage, changing to black in 1848. This illustration was copied by G Brennan who saw the original painting by Henry Martens at a gallery in New Bond Street in 1941. |
