The Yeomanry

Trumpeter c1840

The trumpeters and musicians were given pale blue shakos in 1840 while the rest of the regiment wore the new scarlet shakos. The top of the shako has a silver band of lace and now a drooping black plume instead of the upright type. The pelisse was pale blue with brown fur and remained so for many years. His horse has a blue shabraque with no embroidered rose. The sheepskin was white at this stage, changing to black in 1848. This illustration was copied by G Brennan who saw the original painting by Henry Martens at a gallery in New Bond Street in 1941.
