This painting by M Angelo Hayes gives proof of the existence of a regimental band in 1848. The pale blue shakos and pelisses are very distinctive and we can see that that top of the shako has interlinking silver rings instead of a silver lace band. The sheepskins on the saddle and valise are black at this stage. The kettle drummer has plain drums without banners and his shabraque looks as if it has an embroidered rose. Besides the mounted brass band the regiment maintained a small orchestra for indoor events. |
