G R Lane-Fox TD MP, Lord Bingley


George Richard Lane-Fox was born on 15th Dec 1870 and became a Conservative politician. He stood as candidate at Barkston Ash in 1906 and defeated the Liberal MP. He remained MP for 25 years and was appointed Secretary for Mines from 1922 to 1928. He served with the Yorkshire Hussars in World War 1 as a major and was wounded. After the war he commanded the regiment, from 1920 to 1924, during which time he had to re-form them as a mounted unit. He became Baron Bingley in 1933 and was Honorary Colonel of the regiment from 1924 to 1946. He died on 11th Dec 1947.
