Lord Arthur Hugh Grosvenor


Arthur Hugh Grosvenor was born on 31 May 1860. He was the second son and 4th child of Hugh Lupus the 1st Duke of Westminster. Educated at Eton, he went on to Christ Church, Oxford. On 12 April 1893 he married Helen, daughter of Sir Robert Sheffield 5th Bt. They had a son and 2 daughters. He was a lieutenant in the Cheshire Yeomanry from 1 July 1881 and promoted to captain on 11 Aug 1888. In 1 Sep 1901 he was a major, fighting with the Cheshire Yeomanry in the Boer War. On 30 Sep 1905 he was appointed lieutenant-colonel in the regiment. and took over from Lord Harrington as commandant, a post he held until 19 Oct 1910. He held several appointments in the county including JP and Deputy Lieutenant. He died on 29 April 1929. The photo above shows him in the dress uniform of the Earl of Chester’s Yeomanry with the rank of captain c1890.
