Trumpeter, Stockport Troop 1833

The McLean print based on Samuel Spode’s equestrian portrait of Captain Howard, dated July 1833, has this background detail showing a trumpeter. He rides a brown and white skewbald horse and has a red shabraque and white sheepskin saddle cover, in contrast to the blue shabraques and black sheepskins of the officers in front of him. His uniform is a blue hussar jacket and pelisse, with red facings on the jacket. The colour of his shako is not clear in this print but the original painting shows a scarlet shako and white plume, contrasting with the black shakos worn by the others.
