Captain John Julius Jersey de Knoop


John Julius Jersey de Knoop of Calverley Hall, Tarporley, Cheshire was killed in action on 7 Aug 1916. He and another officer were shot by a sniper whilst fighting against the Turkish army at Hod el Bahein in Egypt. He was recently promoted to major and is said to have been the CO of the 6th Imperial Camel Corps to which he was seconded in 1915 from the Cheshire Yeomanry. He was buried in Kantara War Memorial Cemetery, Egypt. He was 40 years old. He was the son of Baron W de Knoop on 31 Ruthland Gate, London. He entered the Cheshire Yeomanry as a 2nd Lieutenant on 25 Oct 1902, promoted to Lieutenant 17 Jan 1908 and Captain on 26 Aug 1914.
