Corporal George Hindley


George Hindley was born in Weaverham in 1873 the son of G Hindley of Speedwell, Sandiway, Northwich. He was 27 when he enlisted on 10 Jan 1900, serving for one year and 197 days in the 22nd Company in South Africa. On 28 April 1900 in a skirmish with the Boers he had his horse shot from under him. He was promoted to corporal on 13 Dec 1900 and returned home in 1901 being discharged on 26 July. He worked as a gamekeeper on the Littledale Estate. In the 1911 census he was unmarried. He next worked in North Wales. His last known address was Rhydtalog, Tryddyn, near Mold. He died in 1956 aged 83.
