George Harry Grey was born on 5 April 1802, the son of George Grey, 6th Earl of Stamford and Hon Henrietta Charteris daughter of Lord Elcho. He was only 25 when he was appointed lieutenant-colonel commandant of the Cheshire Yeomanry in 1827. But his tenure lasted only 8 years as he died on 24 Oct 1835. He was married to a cousin, Lady Catherine Charteris, daughter of the 8th Earl of Wemyss and they had a daughter.
