Captain Philip de Malpas W Grey-Egerton

Philip de Malpas Wayne Grey-Egerton was born on 4 April 1895, the son of Sir Philip Grey-Egerton 12th Baronet of Oulton Park, Cheshire, and Mary Caroline Campbell Cuyler. He had a twin brother Rowland le Belward Grey-Egerton who was also killed in action, in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, in 1914. Philip joined the Cheshire Yeomanry as a 2nd lieutenant on 12 May 1914. He transferred to the 19th Hussars on 12 Aug 1915 and was adjutant from 15 Jun 1916. He had the rank of temporary captain from 12 Nov 1916. He was killed in action at Brancoucourt Farm on 8 Oct 1918 aged 23. The photo is courtesy of the Imperial War Museum site. The rank badge on his uniform is that of a 2nd lieutenant, but the cap badge is neither the Prince of Wales plume of the Cheshire Yeomanry or the Elephant of the 19th Hussars.
