Memorial

This wall plaque can be found in Chester Cathedral. It names 16 men who served in the Cheshire Yeomanry and died in the Boer War 1900-1901. The two officers named, Lt Broadbent and Lt Schwabe had served as rankers in the Cheshire Yeomanry but were commissioned into different Yeomanry units. Privates Huskisson and Thornton transferred into the Cape Mounted Police in September 1900. Only Lt Broadbent, Henry Thornton and Percy Preston were killed in action, the other 13 died of disease.
