Sabretache, Stockport Troop 1833

The print of Captain John Howard dated 1833 shows him as Captain of the Stockport Troop of the King’s Cheshire Yeomanry Cavalry. The sabretache is an undress type, being of black patent leather with a metal badge in the middle. It appears gilt in this print but the original Spode painting has a silver badge. In both cases the detail is unclear. As Howard is in mounted dress uniform it is safe to assume that there was no embroidered dress sabretache worn by officers of the Stockport Troop.
