Private Fred Vickerstaff from Macclesfield died of pneumonia in Morpeth Hospital, Northumberland on 28 May 1917. He was 29 years old. He was training with the 2nd Line regiment of the Cheshire Yeomanry which remained in Britain during the war. In July 1916 they were converted to a cyclist unit. Fred was given a military funeral, four horses drawing the wagon and a firing party of Cheshire Yeomen. Officers present were Major Barbour and Captain Cowie.
