George Fleming Warren, 2nd Lord de Tabley


George Fleming Warren was born on 28 Oct 1811, the son of Sir John Leicester, 1st Lord de Tabley, and Georgiana Cottin. He was educated at Eton and Christ Church, Oxford. Under the terms of the will of Elizabeth Warren-Bulkeley, he changed his name from Leicester to Warren in 1832. By that time he was already the 2nd Baron de Tabley on the death of his father in 1827. He was a Liberal in the House of Lords and was Treasurer of the Household and a Privy Counsellor. He was married in 1832 to Catharina Barbara daughter of Jerome, Count de Salis-Soglio and had 6 children. Catharina ‘Nina’ died in 1869 and George married Elizabeth Jacson in Jan 1871. He was Lieutenant-Colonel Commandant of the Earl of Chester’s Yeomanry Cavalry from 1847 to 1869, and the portrait shows him in the uniform of the Yeomanry. He died on 19 Oct 1887.
