Officers, Undress 1899

The publication of this photo in the Navy & Army Illustrated coincided with the embarkation of the 2nd Battalion to South Africa on 20 Oct 1899. The CO, Lt-Col Harris is seated in the middle of the group of officers. Three officers wear scarlet undress frocks, with white collar, shoulder straps and cuffs. The other officers are wearing blue serge frocks. Collar badges can be seen on all these uniforms, but the badges on the scarlet frocks look smaller than those on the blue serge. The cap badge worn on the left side of the field service cap is the same as worn on caps and berets up until 1959.
