HMS Majestic was torpedoed on on 27 May by the German submarine U-21, commanded by Captain Otto Hersing. HMS Majestic had anti-torpedo nets out, but the torpedoes fired had special net cutting abilities. Fortunately for the British, German U-boats carried few torpedoes and there was not much hope for a speedy resupply. U-21's activitiy tailed off dramatically after this success.
