General Francis Augustus Eliott, 2nd Lord Heathfield


Francis Augustus Eliott was born on 31 Dec 1750. He was the son of Lieutenant General George Augustus Eliott, 1st Baron Heathfield of Gibraltar. His mother was Anne Pollexfen Drake. Francis was an officer rising to the rank of lieutenant-colonel in the 6th Inniskilling Dragoons. He attained the rank of General and was appointed Colonel of the 20th Light Dragoons on 23 Mar 1797. On 4 April 1810 he exchanged to become Colonel of the Kings Dragoon Guards. The family seat was Nutwell, Woodbury, Devon which Eliott demolished and rebuilt in 1800 as an ugly block. He was appointed Lord of the Bedchamber in 1812. He did not marry and because he had no children the barony became extinct on his death on 26 Jan 1813.
