The 2nd Battalion of the King’s Regiment was stationed in the Mediterranean, first Gibraltar in 1859 and then Malta in 1860. The officer in this photo wears a hot climate uniform. The white tunic has a red twisted cord to hold the crimson silk sash on his left shoulder. The sword, kept in a black leather and brass scabbard, is slung on white straps from a waist-belt worn under the tunic. He has a white cover to his forage cap, with a skirt to protect his neck. His summer trousers are dark blue with a red stripe. |
