British Empire Title

The King's (Liverpool Regiment) (8th Foot)

Officer, Malta 1860

The 2nd Battalion of the King’s Regiment was stationed in the Mediterranean, first Gibraltar in 1859 and then Malta in 1860. The officer in this photo wears a hot climate uniform. The white tunic has a red twisted cord to hold the crimson silk sash on his left shoulder. The sword, kept in a black leather and brass scabbard, is slung on white straps from a waist-belt worn under the tunic. He has a white cover to his forage cap, with a skirt to protect his neck. His summer trousers are dark blue with a red stripe.
